There are places that just speak to you the moment you step inside. Blauwhuis Castle in Izegem is one of them. The imposing columns, the expansive grounds, and the quiet grandeur of a place that has held stories for centuries.

The color palette speaks for itself: soft shades of blue complemented by pure white and mother-of-pearl. Lush floral arrangements, fabrics cascading across the table like waterfalls, and a stunning ensemble of pearls for the bride. Every detail was carefully considered; every corner of the castle was a work of art in its own right.

Everything was beautifully captured by Ellen de Raad (videography), and the photos were taken by Cheryll van Weert Photography and Portret Mariette. Three lenses, one story.

My own contribution to the day was something I love doing most of all: drawing live portraits. There’s something magical about illustrating in a setting like this. Guests who come to watch out of curiosity, the soft late-afternoon light over the castle pond, the scratching of pen on paper.
The portrait that someone takes home is more than just a memory. It’s a small work of art with a story.
